Kate Hambley

Attorney

Landform Law is the solo practice of attorney Kate Hambley. Kate grew up in Maine and cares deeply about ensuring long-term livability of her home state.

Kate attended Vermont Law School, where she graduated summa cum laude. After clerking for the Vermont Environmental Court (a specialty appellate court for land use matters), Kate practiced in Seattle representing municipal clients in land use and public records issues before returning to Maine and starting her solo practice.

Kate understands that litigation is often the most expensive way to resolve a problem, and she has the creativity and flexibility it takes to find alternative ways to achieve her clients’ goals. At the same time, Kate has years of experience litigating land use issues, and she knows how to get results for her clients in an adversarial setting. She has litigated dozens of land use cases, including:

  • Successfully defending municipality in a multi-million-dollar fee dispute

  • Successfully defending municipal moratorium on self-storage facilities

  • Successfully defending development approvals for residential, religious, and institutional projects

  • Successfully enforcing municipal environmental laws.

In her spare time, Kate enjoys knitting, sewing, biking, and experimenting with fermentation projects
